How to Get Your Brand Into ChatGPT and Google AI Answers

To get your brand mentioned by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot or Google's AI answers, those tools need to find clear pages that answer customer questions directly, consistent details about your name, address and phone across the web, and third-party sites and reviews that talk about you. These assistants answer from what they learned in training, and for many questions they also search the web live and cite the sources they used.

This work is often called AEO or GEO (answer engine or generative engine optimization). Nobody can guarantee you will be mentioned, not an agency and not a tool. What you can do is make your site the easiest source to understand and quote, then check every month whether you are showing up.

How AI assistants pick the sources they cite

When someone asks "best dental clinic in Amman" or "who runs ads in Jordan", the assistant usually searches the web, reads a set of pages, and writes a short answer with links. None of these companies publish exactly how they choose, but a few things are well known to help:

  • Pages that answer the question directly: the answer sits in the first paragraph, not buried in general text.
  • A crawlable site: pages that load fast, with text as real text, not inside images.
  • Consistent details: the same name, address and phone on your site, your Google Business Profile, directories like Clutch and DesignRush, and your social profiles.
  • Structured data: schema.org markup such as Organization, LocalBusiness or FAQ, which tells machines who you are, what you do and where.
  • Real reviews and third-party mentions: customer ratings, articles, directories and sites that mention you without you writing it.

These overlap heavily with local search basics, some of which we cover in Google Ads for local businesses. The difference is that an assistant quotes a sentence from your page, so clear sentences matter more than ever.

The technical checks on your site

robots.txt

This file tells crawlers what they may read. Some sites block AI crawlers without the owner knowing. Make sure you are not blocking OAI-SearchBot (used for ChatGPT search) or PerplexityBot. GPTBot is OpenAI's training crawler, and Google-Extended concerns whether Google can use your content to train its models; blocking it does not remove you from Google Search. Allowing training is your call, but don't block search crawlers by mistake. Copilot relies on Bing, so verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools too.

llms.txt

This is a proposed convention: a plain text file summarizing your site and key pages for language models. It is not an official standard, and no assistant guarantees it reads it. It is cheap to add, so add it if you like, but don't treat it as the answer.

A checklist you can do this month

  1. Write 20 questions a customer might ask an assistant about your field and city. Ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google, and log who gets mentioned.
  2. Make your details match: same name in Arabic and English, same address, phone and hours on the site, Google profile, social and directories.
  3. Update your Google Business Profile: right category, real photos, services, and ask real customers for reviews.
  4. Check robots.txt so search crawlers are not blocked.
  5. Add schema: Organization or LocalBusiness sitewide, FAQ on pages with questions and answers.
  6. Write one page per important question: answer first, then details, rough prices and steps.
  7. List yourself in relevant directories with a description that matches your site.
  8. Ask the same questions next month and compare in a simple sheet.

Example: a furniture showroom in Amman

Say a furniture showroom in Amman called "Wood House" asks ChatGPT "where can I buy a modern sofa in Amman?" and isn't mentioned, even though it has a website and an Instagram page. Looking closer, the address on the site differs from the Google profile, the site is all product photos with almost no text, and no page answers questions about prices, delivery or how long custom orders take.

The plan is simple: fix the address and phone everywhere, write a page on sofa prices in Amman and how to choose, add a delivery and assembly page, add LocalBusiness schema, and ask real buyers for reviews. Then ask the same questions every month and log the results. It may start appearing for some questions in some assistants first, or it may take a while. Either way, the owner now has a way to see what changed.

In-house or agency for AEO

Much of this your own team can handle: updating the Google profile, asking for reviews and keeping details consistent. That takes follow-through more than expertise. Writing clear answer pages, schema, robots and llms files, and disciplined monthly testing need someone who understands both content and the technical side.

If you have a technical person and a strong writer, start in-house with the checklist above. If not, an agency can build the foundation and hand daily tasks to your team. We weigh this trade-off more broadly in in-house team or agency. Be wary of anyone promising "guaranteed ChatGPT placement", since nobody controls these answers. When comparing offers, use the questions to ask any agency.

How we handle this at Wave

We applied all of this to our own site, wavestudioo.com, before offering it to anyone. We added an llms.txt file, Organization and FAQ schema, and made our name, address and phone match across the site, our Google profile and social accounts, with the same details ready for directories. Our blog articles are written as clear questions and answers, like this one. Every month we ask the same list of about 20 questions across the assistants, log where we are mentioned or cited, and use that to decide what to write next.

Questions about this topic

How long does it take for ChatGPT to start mentioning my business?
There is no fixed timeline, because each assistant updates its sources differently and nobody controls its answers. Do the basics, ask the same questions monthly, and judge progress from the log rather than a single query.
Do paid ads make AI assistants mention me?
Ads don't buy a place in an assistant's answer. They can bring visits, reviews and brand mentions, though, and those help indirectly when they are genuine.
Is an Arabic-only website enough?
Arabic is essential because that is how most of your customers ask. If people also search in English or you serve customers outside Jordan, English pages widen the questions you can appear for. Keep the name and details identical in both languages.
